Kathryn Doyle
The Second Annual San Francisco History Expo will take place at the Old Mint, 88 Fifth Street at Mission, on Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4, 2012. The Expo will run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, and admission is free (donations are welcome).
This year the California Genealogical Society will have a presence thanks to the generosity of SFgenealogy.org and the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish Genealogy Society who are sharing their space.
Dozens of neighborhood-based and other historical associations representing the diversity of San Francisco will present mini-museums displaying artifacts and sharing information about their organizations.
In addition, there will be an exhibit entitled “Elegant Pit Stops,” images of historic garages from around the city. Artist Alan Zimmerman will display his large-scale oil-on-wood paintings of Gold Rush San Francisco.
Historic figures will mingle with the crowd and there will be historic films presented on the vault level and several special presentations during the weekend.
You can find the latest information on the Expo at SFHistoryExpo.org.

Three happy California Genealogical Society board members just finished a week of intensive learning at the 2012 Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, sponsored by the Utah Genealogical Association. President Jeff Vaillant and Recording Secretary Lisa Gorrell were here with me although we rarely saw each other since we were taking different courses.

We were able to sit together at last night's banquet and compare notes about our courses, instructors, and what we learned. Bottom line: we all need to catch up on sleep but we had a fantastic time and learned so much.
Read Jeff's reports on previous SLIG years at Jeff Valliant's Reports.
Thanks to Kim von Aspern-Parker for acting as our photographer.
